Best known actor for "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock" has peacefully died in his home Tuesday morning in Manteo, North Carolina. Andy Griffith was 86 years old.

The greatly missed television legend is also known as America's best sheriff.

Andy starred in the classic hit show, "The Andy Griffith Show" playing a small-town's sheriff and widower under the character name Andy Taylor. His sidekick was  Deputy Barney Fife who happened to be the late Don Knotts.

During 1986, the hit show "Matlock" was aired and Griffiths played a criminal defense lawyer called Ben Matlock. That show lasted until 1995.

Andy has appeared on multiple TV shows such as Fantasy Island, Dawson's Creek, the original "Hawaii Five-O," just to name of few…

Although Griffith was a very successful actor he has struggled with some health issues such Guillain-Barre syndrome paralyzing Andy for about seven months. Guillain-Barre syndrome is a type of disorder attacking ones nervous system. In the year 2000, Andy had a heart attack which lead him on operating tables for quadruple bypass surgery and sometime after that he had surgery done on his hip in 2007.

Did you know that George W. Bush awarded Andy Griffith with his Presidential Medal of Freedom back in 2005?
